Project description:
The new luxury holiday home in Pico recovers the old distillery that gives it its name, which is reborn in the hands of Benedita Branco. It is located in the Cabrito area, in the Pico Island Vineyard Culture Landscape, in the Azores, classified by UNESCO since 2004.
The emergence of this distillery is still shrouded in mystery. It is known that it was built by a priest, according to reports from the former owners, around 1820.
The purpose of the Architectural Proposal is to preserve nature, environmental quality and safeguard the built-up historical and cultural heritage and local identity. The total restoration of the building took into account the construction tradition of Pico Island in the Azores and the new proposal maintains the existing stone walls and also has as its concept the Plan for the Territorial Use of the Protected Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture.
Adega do Fogo works as a 5 * holiday home, which can be used by families or groups of friends who wish to enjoy the property as a whole.
The decorative elements invite contemplation and time travel, with furniture made to measure in solid brown wood. The recovery of the ceiling beams, the stone windows and the wooden floor give the space unique characteristics that revive the heritage of the place. The white walls cut by the black of the stone of the original construction remind us of the DNA and history of the old distillery and the place where it is located.
Outside, the intention was the same: different areas allow you to enjoy the property throughout the day, with spaces prepared for different times: from the pool overlooking the Pico to the table installed under the trees next to the wood oven, also passing by the Hall. area under the roof next to the kitchen, overlooking the gardens where fig trees grow between walls erected in volcanic stone, there are several spaces to enjoy long and pleasant moments of leisure.
Also in the various outdoor areas, the furniture is simple, in wood, where views and comfort prevail. Everywhere there are plants rehabilitated by Silvina Maria, mother of Benedita, who saved them from various parts of the island where they were at risk and gave them a new home.
